Eagle Cam Observation Terms

  1. Today I observed the eagle cam for about fifteen minutes from 10:30am to 10:45am. During that time period I noticed that there are two eagles and two eggs in the nest. For the first ten minutes one of the eagles was sitting in the nest on top of the eggs. While the eagle was sitting in the nest it seemed to be calling. My guess is that it was calling for its partner. After about ten minutes the second eagle arrived, it seemed to be slightly smaller than the one sitting in the nest. From my understanding the male is slightly smaller than the female. It was interesting to see the female guarding the eggs while the male was out doing something else. Im not sure exactly what he was doing because I didn’t see him return with anything.
  2. February 22 from 12:15pm – 12:30am. When I first started observing, I saw the female laying in the nest and the male sitting on a branch as if it was watching guard. Everything seemed about the same since the last time I logged on to watch, until the mother moved. The eggs have hatched and it seems as if there was a tragedy. I only saw only one of the eaglets with any movement. Even though only one of the eaglets survived the mother still sits on top of both of them to keep them warm. For the fifteen minutes that I have observed it has been raining the whole time and it seems as though the eagles were whimpering as if a sign of mourning. It is a sad time in the nest.
  3. March 25th from 3:00pm – 3:15pm. I thought it was very interesting to observe a new eagle nest. It did not surprise me much how similar the behavior of the birds in the two nests were. the difference in this nest was that it had two alive and healthy chicks. There wasn’t a ton of activity during the time that I observed the nest. the two chicks were bouncing around the nest while one of the parents stood guard on a branch. I assumed that it was the mother standing guard because the eagle looked larger (however that is just a guess). I did not see the other parent come around the nest during the time that I observed.
  4. April 9th from 4:45pm – 500pm. The two chicks are still in the nest, which is nice to see. Both of them still seem to look healthy and moving around. they are getting bigger! I wonder how much longer or how big they need to be in order to leave the nest. Once again ill only noticed one of the parents watching over the nest.
  5. April 30th from 2:00pm – 2:30pm. Just twenty-one days later I thought I got that answer to my question form observation four. The weather was beautiful in Florida, 83 and sunny but … the nest was empty. At first it made me sad to see but I was curious so I left the stream on a little longer to see if anything would show up. Sure enough, income the two chicks with one of the parents. The two chicks have grown substantially and they seem to be flying! There is only one camera angle so it was tough to see them in detail but they almost look all black. One of the parents stayed for a short period of time then took off. The two chicks remained in the nest for the rest of my observation.
