Active Reading

Over the course of the semester we have practiced the skill of active reading. For every paper we were assigned, we were required to read scholarly texts and annotate them. For the most part while active reading, I stick to the same method and it seems to work pretty well for me. While I feel as though my active reading is solid now, that hasn’t always been the case. I believe there is a drastic difference from the way that I annoyed and actively reading in the beginning of the course compared to now.

In the beginning of the course, I read something and understood what it meant  but I didn’t take the time to think about it in any depth. A good comparison to the way that my reading skills have developed would be Eliza in Christina Hass’ Report. I am similar to Eliza in that when I first started out in this class I had a very simple way of reading literature. Now at the end of the semester I feel like I have a much more rhetorical understanding of what I read. Of course Eliza was a student of science and Hass talks about how she developed her skills over the course of her four years at college, however the idea of it all is very similar to what I went through in this class.
